Founded in 2002, Fujian Centerm Information Co. Ltd.—also known as Centerm Information—is best known for its manufacture and sale of Windows-based thin clients. Indeed, Centerm is currently the top Windows thin client brand in China, with a market share of 31 percent. However, Centerm also provides intelligent point-of-sale (POS) devices for businesses worldwide. Among them is the electronic POS (ePOS) secure PIN pad brand known as the CK series, which consists of the CK10, CK20, and CK30.

The CK30 represents the top-tier entry of the series. Its main feature, just like its lower-end siblings, is the PIN key pad, which is equipped with advanced security encryption technology. The device uses the Triple Data Encryption Standard (TDES) algorithm. This means that the CK30 applies the DES cipher algorithm three times to each block of data, which consists of user and system information. The multiple security mechanisms consequently provide higher security protection. So, customers can swipe their payment cards and enter their PIN numbers with absolute confidence. Also, the device will automatically lock all the features if someone dismantles it.

The numbers and characters that comprise the key pad are large and easy to read. In addition to the 10 alphanumeric keys, the key pad has three functional ones that consist of the “Clear” (to erase information), “Enter” (to go to the next step of/conclude a process or transaction), and “Esc” keys (to stop or cancel a transaction or a step in a transaction). Hovering over the PIN pad is a green screen that displays information related to the purchase, including total amount due and instructions for authorizing the sale to be applied on the card. It has an Ethernet port for wired connectivity to a computer, and there is a port for plugging in its 5-volt 500 mAh power supply.

Of compact design and sleek aesthetic value, the Centerm CK30 can be used in the financial industry to minimize incidences of identity theft. Merchants getting the ePOS system for their businesses can add some enhancing options, such as an LCD screen and a higher amount of memory storage capacity.
